Auditions and Summer Camp Enrollments Ahead for Tater Patch3/1/2010 - Following the success of their opening show of the 2010 season, Tater Patch Players are pressing on and have scheduled auditions for their remaining three shows for 2010. The first show, Proof, will be performed on June 3-6 at the Pickens Chamber of Commerce. The auditions are Sunday, March 7 from 2 - 6 PM and Monday March 8 from 6-8 PM. These auditions will be held at the Tater Patch Rehearsal building at 953 E. Church Street (across from the Bealls/Freds shopping center). Proof has a four person cast -- two men and two women. The characters are all 20 years old and older. This is an audition for adults only. There is some strong language in the play which is very necessary to develop the tension and emotion in this story of loss, love, madness and belief. The auditioners will be asked to read excerpts from the script as it is written. Auditioners do not need to bring a prepared monologue for this audition, according to director Stan O'Kelley. Tater Patch is also, as always, looking for volunteers to help with this show. Contact them, or Stan, through the website at www. taterpatchplayers.org.
Auditions will be held on March 28 and 29 for Guys and Dolls, to be performed on July 29-August 1 and August 5-8. Choreographer Denver Clark will only be available on March 28, so if you really want to be a dancer in this one, that's the day you should come. Nan Nawrocki is directing the actors and Ellen Whitten is the Music Director. They are looking forward to casting this familiar story of love among the Gambling Guys, the Hot Box Dancers, and the Mission Doll. These auditions will be at the Tater Patch Rehearsal building also.
Auditions will be held for Smoke on the Mountain, postponed from last fall to October 28-31 and November 4-7. These auditions will be held on April 12 from 7 - 9 PM at the Emerging Healthcare Facility behind the Bargain Barn off Camp Road. Marcia Wright will be directing this one and Thelma (Bay) Cagle will be the Music Director. So bring your best singing voices and acting skills to this audition and join the much-loved Sanders Family as they bring a little sweet gospel music to the mountains.
There will be more details about these last two auditions in a later issue of the Pickens Progress and on the website in the weeks to come. Also available now is the application for the fourth annual Tater Patch Players/Jasper Young Singers Music and Drama Camp. The camp will be all morning for two weeks -- June 7-11 and June 14-18. Campers can attend for one week or for both. The enrollment form is available on the Tater Patch website and also by emailing Jaspermuse@etcmail.com for more information or downloadload form. The camp will be held again this year at Holy Family Episcopal Church off Cove Road.
The Tater Patchers remain busy bringing you theater and youth activities. At the same time they are planning to help with some other activities in the community. And they continue to look for that permanent theater. They welcome volunteers for all their activities, because, as they say "We are the community's theater. And remember, if it's entertaining, it's Tater Patch."
