SYBIL THOMPSON IS CHOSEN AS CHATTAHOOCHEE TECHNICAL COLLEGE’S GOAL WINNER 
2/25/2010 - Sybil Thompson of Marietta, a Nursing student at Chattahoochee Technical College, has been named as the college’s winner of the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL).
The announcement was made at the college’s GOAL and Rick Perkins recognition luncheon on February 24, 2010 which was held at the college’s Conference Center on the Marietta Campus.
Thompson was chosen by a panel of local leaders over three other nominees for the award. The runners-up were Yahoanon Lelonek, Nursing student of Marietta; Bethany White, Interiors student of Canton; and Jonathan Valdes, Drafting student of Marietta.
GOAL, a statewide program of the Technical College System of Georgia, honors excellence in academics and leadership among the state’s technical college students. Local GOAL winners are selected at each of the state’s technical colleges as well as the four Board of Regents colleges with technical education divisions.
The announcement of Thompson as the Chattahoochee Technical College GOAL winner was made by Dr. Sanford Chandler, President of the college.
Thompson will now proceed to consortia preliminary judging. If chosen as one of the 12 finalists, two from each consortium, then Thompson will receive an all-expense paid trip to Atlanta in May where, for two-days, she will compete with GOAL finalists from the other state technical college campuses. A panel of leaders from the business, industry and government sectors will interview them and choose one to be the state’s 2010 GOAL winner and the recipient of the GOAL medallion.
A unit of the Technical College System of Georgia, Chattahoochee Technical College is the largest technical college in the state with a student population of more than 11,000 students.
