Chattahoochee Tech Helps to Train Army Reserve Personnel

2/5/2010 - It’s the first time in history the United States Army Reserve has utilized educational training resources outside the Corp. Chattahoochee Technical College has been contracted by the U.S. Army to instruct students in computer networking technologies. The fifteen-week, 14 course program is comprised of instruction in three technical certificate programs; COMP TIA/ A+ Certification, CISCO Network Specialist, and Microsoft Network Service Technician. In addition, students will receive training in network security technology.
“Chattahoochee Technical College is pleased to be working with the U.S. Army Reserve in training future Information Specialists,” says Sanford Chandler, president of Chattahoochee Tech. “No other educational institution we know of has been authorized by the Army to conduct training of this program.”
“This is a unique opportunity for the college to demonstrate our flexibility and responsiveness in developing training programs for customers. The Army has very specific guidelines and requirements that the college was able to accommodate quickly,” explains Glenn Rasco, Vice President for Community and Economic Development for the college.
The class is comprised of 20 U.S. Army Reserve personnel. Class begins February 8 and will be conducted at the college’s Marietta Campus. Instruction will held 8:00am – 5:00pm, Monday thru Friday. Upon course completion, students will receive college credit from Chattahoochee Technical College for the three technical certificate programs and be successfully prepared for their roles in the Reserve as Information Technology Specialists. “After students’ military term, they will have the education and training to secure computer technology employment in the private sector,” says explains Rasco. “The benefits of the program to the students are far reaching.”
The Army Reserve students are coming from all over the country to participate in the training program in preparation for service in the field. With the success of the first class, officials from the college and the Army Reserve anticipate the program’s continuance.
